The camera never lies?

This is one of my favourite shots from today. It was taken in Perth’s North Inch park.

It looks like I’m about to get into trouble. And shortly after this some of my group thought they might have to protect me.

But what both, they from a distance and the camera, didn’t get was that this was actually a pretty friendly encounter. The two gents on the bench started talking to me, so I raised my camera to get a shot. They look perplexed but the tone of their voices was actually warm.

Clearly from a distance and also in the fraction of a second which made this photograph the wrong interpretation was easy to draw. But as someone taking part in the interaction it felt fine and unthreatening.

Just another reminder that situations and images can be easily misinterpreted.
